The City Transfer Company opened in 1901 at Polk and Tampa Streets downtown. They initially assisted the ever-increasing number of arriving travelers in “transferring” goods like trunks and baggage from the H.B. Plant System depot to wherever the customer was staying. The company also provided handsome carriages to the city. For 25 cents, one of six carriages would pick you up at your residence and take you wherever in town you wished to go. City Transfer moved and continued to grow, changing with the times and developing into a moving and storage company. By the 1960s, they were the local agent for national movers Global Van Lines.
By 1925, this building had been transformed into a Packard Motors dealership, which also housed the Seaboard Investment Company. The Primrose School of South Tampa now occupies the corner.
