The First Christian Church of Tampa was established in 1900 with fourteen charter members. During its early years, the small congregation often moved to provide space for its growing membership. In 1927, it moved from its tabernacle at Marion and Twiggs Street to this English Gothic red brick building at the foot of the Davis Islands bridge. It cost $250,000 to build and features stained glass windows, steeple bells, and an extensive education annex. By the middle of the 20th century, it had a membership of 1,700 people. By the early 2000s, the size of the congregation dwindled as people moved to the suburbs.

Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church, formed in 1998, struggled to find a suitable home for its members for nearly a decade. In 2006, they considered building a new church behind the Home Depot store on South Dale Mabry after zoning for a large apartment project fell through. In 2007, the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ congregation struggled financially and decided to sell this 80-year-old building. After six months of negotiation, the churches agreed on a $2.7 million price tag. By 2009, Holy Trinity had rehabilitated the building and moved in.
