Early in the 20th century, Goody-Goody was a multi-location barbecue stand. After the Great Depression, owner W.B. Stayer consolidated business to this downtown spot. Even during the lean years, hamburgers with a special secret sauce and pies made from closely guarded family recipes remained popular. The eatery’s popularity ebbed and flowed for decades. It finally closed shop in 2005, and the building was razed in 2006.

The location is now a parking lot. Diners with a hankering for some of that Goody-Goody grub were in luck. In 2014, restaurateur Richard Gonzmart bought the brand and rights to the recipes. He opened the new Goody-Goody’s in 2016 in Hyde Park Village after meticulously recreating many of the original shop's details, designs, and menu items. The Hyde Park location closed in 2024, citing financial concerns.
