Dodd Motor Co., a Tampa car agency headed by Harry M. Dodd, sold Fords when they opened in late 1921. Thirteen years earlier, in 1908, Henry Ford had completed his assembly line invention, and Ford Model Ts became popular. Built from 1908 to 1927, it was considered affordable and practical for the common man. The company had several locations, and Dodd headed them until 1933, when he moved to Savannah to manage a chain of theaters. By 1938, this location was home to Bramblett-Harmon Tires.
After demolition, the property was used for public parking and was known as the Jackson Street lot. In 2019 construction began on the Hyatt Place and Hyatt House hotels. Opening in 2021, the 345-room building is two hotels under one roof. Hyatt House rooms have kitchenettes and can accommodate extended stays. Hyatt Place offers standard rooms.
