The Plattonian Building, named after O.H Platt, the Hyde Park subdivision creator, is located at the northeast corner of Platt St. and South Blvd. It opened on June 1, 1925. As was the custom in the 1920s, it had six retail spaces on the first floor and ten 3-room apartments on the second floor and was built for $35,000. Tampa Grocery Company and Atlantic and Pacific (A&P) Tea Company occupied the main retail space when it opened.
Since its inception, the building’s mixed-use function has been maintained. After a refresh in 1951, apartments were rented for $65 a month. According to online sources, the original 300-square-foot studio apartments are now rented for $1,495 monthly. The retail space recently housed a Pilates studio, a hair salon, and Koya- an eight-seat Asian tasting menu-only eatery.
